Inspirational Educators

Educators come in many forms – from parents to grandparents, teachers to librarians, coaches to counselors. Every life has been touched by someone who saw and nurtured potential. In 2019, UNC Greensboro’s School of Education established a program to recognize the significant impact educators have on their students and the world.

The Inspirational Educators Program celebrates distinguished service, leadership, and the care educators take in the growth of others. The program includes recognition awards, merit-based scholarships for UNCG students, and the Inspirational Educators Endowed Fund in Education. Because all are funded by gifts made in support and honor of Inspirational Educators, every donor pays tribute to a legacy and inspires future leaders of the teaching profession.

“A commitment to education and the dedication to service are the foundation of our university,” says UNCG Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr. “Educators are selfless and often underappreciated, which is why I am honored to congratulate each Inspirational Educator on this great honor.”

The 48 inaugural Inspirational Educators were inducted Sunday, April 14. Nominated by family, friends, colleagues, and former students, the names of these incredible individuals are now displayed proudly in the School of Education.

“We’re trying to elevate the profession of education,” says Dr. Randy Penfield, dean of the School of Education. “We want to honor people who have made a difference in other people’s lives, and we’re raising needed funds for people who want to go into the education profession.”

With a goal of recognizing 1000 Inspirational Educators, UNCG’s School of Education is on the verge on creating a lasting monument to transformative educators, as well as tremendous impact on the teaching profession.
