“I’m thinking about the future. I’m happy to support the project and the library, and I am earning interest and enjoying tax advantages along the way.”

I am a lover of history and libraries, and a military veteran. I grew up in Portland, Oregon and moved to Hendersonville 19 years ago, after my retirement. Though I did not attend UNCG myself, I was thrilled to learn the university hosts a program about the experiences of women veterans: The Betty H. Carter Women Veteran’s Historical Project. The project documents the contributions of women in the military and related service organizations since World War I, and is a wonderful collection of historical documents and personal accounts.

When exploring ways to support the project, I discovered the benefits of a charitable gift annuity. I was able to make a gift that is helping to grow this transformative program while also earning a healthy return during my lifetime, so I can meet both my needs and the long-term needs of the WVHP.

I am happy to be a part of the project, and it is nice to be among fellow veterans. There are many financial and tax advantages to a charitable gift annuity, and the Planned Giving staff has been very sincere and helpful. I’m thinking about the future, and what better cause to support than the library?
